Shavuot

SHAVUOT LEARNING LANDWIRTH MEMORIAL LECTURE SUNDAY, JUNE 1ST, THE FIRST NIGHT OF SHAVUOT Followed by: Edina Oestreicher, Executive Director at UConn Hillel Topic: “BEING JEWISH IN A TIME OF EITHER/OR, EXTREMIST THINKING” We live in a time of increasingly polarized, “Since we’re right, so you must be wrong” thinking. And no part of this country has been more affected by such “either/or” extremism than the American college campus. On Shavuot night, the anniversary of Judaism’s birth, it’s customary to discuss a relevant aspect of Torah. At Or Shalom we therefore hold our annual Landwirth lecture on that night. This year, we’re pleased to welcome Edina Oestreicher, Hillel director at UConn, and a leading light in this challenging times. Edina will focus on the climate of extremism in our country– especially on how it is affecting Jewish student life on campus. Rabbi Wainhaus will provide the Torah’s perspective on “one story,” extremist thinking. Call the office 203.799.2341 or register @ orshalomct.org. Shavuot Blintzes will of course be provided.
