Religious School Philosophy

Beginning in preschool and culminating with the Bar/Bat Mitzvah class, the goal of our Religious School is to impart to our children a knowledge of Hebrew, Bible, Israel, Jewish History, Folklore, Prayers, Jewish Values, Laws and Customs.

It is said that: "True education is more like 'lighting a fire' than simply 'filling a pail". We believe that those words are even truer with regard to Jewish education: The ultimate goal of our Hebrew School is not only to "fill" our students' minds with Jewish knowledge, but to show them how Judaism can be a source of spiritual joy, strength and guidance in their lives. Indeed, we aspire to teach Torah to our children in such a way that they will choose to lovingly transmit it to their own children one day! We accomplish this through many experiential activities, such as celebration, song, dance, story-telling, arts & crafts, drama and hands-on workshops.

Our hours will be 4-5:30pm at B'nai Jacob on Wednesdays for the whole year, grades 3-7. On Sundays 9:00am-noon, we will meet from September to mid-January at Congregation Or Shalom and from mid-January to our last day in May at Congregation B'nai Jacob.
